A local agency in Ireland or a nearshore agency in Romania: what changes for your business

Most Irish owners we talk to assume a team in Romania is cheaper and harder to work with. Neither is automatically true. This page sets the published facts side by side, so you can decide on what matters for your project.

Is a team in Romania cheaper?

Not by default. Several Dublin Shopify agencies on Clutch list $100 to $149 per hour, and Webmate’s published rate is €100 per hour. The difference you can measure is in how the price is set, not in the hourly figure.

Compare the full quote for the same scope: what is included, who maintains the integrations after launch and what a change costs. At Webmate the plan comes from a 2-week audit (€1,500), with a fixed price for each stage written before you sign.

When a local agency is the better choice

  • You want workshops in your office every week, with the whole team in the room.
  • The project depends on Irish suppliers or partners the agency already works with.
  • Your contract must be under Irish law and signed with an Irish company.
  • You need someone in your shop or warehouse at short notice.

When a nearshore team is worth a call

  • Your store is connected to stock, invoicing or a warehouse, and your team retypes the same order in several places.
  • You want a written plan with a price for each stage before you commit to the whole project.
  • Remote calls already work for your team, and you meet the agency in person a few times a year.
  • You want the code, the accounts and the data to stay in your company’s name, in the EU.
